What do all these codes on the wire mean?
Electrical Wire Label Codes & What They Mean: Here are some of the most common codes being used on today's electrical cables/wires:

- NM (Non-metallic sheathed): Used for indoor wiring in dry locations.
- UF (Underground Feeder): Used for direct burial underground.
- THHN/THWN (Thermoplastic High Heat-resistant Nylon-coated/Thermoplastic Heat- and Moisture-resistant Nylon-coated): Used for wiring in conduit systems, indoor/outdoor locations, and wet/damp areas.
- XHHW (Cross-linked Polyethylene High-Heat-resistant Water-resistant): Used for high-temperature applications in commercial/industrial settings, outdoor/indoor locations, and wet/damp areas.
